When a drug dealer is shot on campus, Zoey and her friends must deal with the fallout of Cal U’s increasingly stringent policies. Full recap of this week’s grown-ish, “Who Gon Stop Me” by @luvthispayne.
Welcome back y’all. We had last week off because there wasn’t a new episode of #grownish I think they were tryna let y’all go see Black Panther without feeling bad (#WakandaForever). But anyway, they were back this week and this episode had me raising my eyebrows all kinds of ways so let’s talk about it.

When the episode opens, Zoey says there are basically three things that make college the greatest experience of your life and those three things are sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll (or hip hop in her case) but SKKKKRRRTTTTT pump the brakes already. First of all, these really seems like a PWI list. Normally, y’all know I rocks with Zoe Zoe but NAH not feeling this little list at all. Plus, how drugs make it on the list but liquor didn’t? How Sway? Like its cool to be a coke head in college….. NAH. Anywho, who are me to judge so lemme continue.
Apparently, Cal U is full of drama and scandal because some drug dealer gets murdered on campus. Zoey and the crew all assume its Vivek and run to go figure out whats going on. But fortunately, its not Vivek who’s been murdered. Sigh of relief ….. Or NAH someone still got MURKED on your campus. This is exactly where I’d transfer.
Who exactly did get murdered? Some dude named Arturo whose girlfriend shot him not because he was slinging drugs but because he was slinging peen by the pound to all the ladies in her sorority. But back to Vivek, Zoey and Nomi are trying to convince him that maybe he should slow his roll now that there’s lots of attention on the drug issues on campus. Speaking of the drug issues on campus, as a response to Arturo’s murder, Cal U is trying to implement random room searches and drug testing in their “War on Drugs.”

Aaron and the Twins are rightfully angry because that understand that policies like those routinely impact students of color disproportionately to their white counterparts. The campus is divided with protests from the War on Drugs group and the No Police State group.
Meanwhile, Zoey seems to be still deep in the throes of her addiction to adderall. She’s popping pills in the morning and Nomi has taken notice. Vivek joins the convo and Zoey again asks him if he’s going to stop his dealing but business is better than ever. See all the other dealers are laying low after Arturo’s unfortunate demise which leaves Vivek as the sole seller. Demand is high and he has the supply, so he’s the man and business is good and has its perks. I mean VIP treatment and exclusive party invites.
Exclusive invites like being invited to the Box by Balty Winthrop. Who is that? Glad you asked. He’s some generational wealth white rich kid whose great granddaddy probably owned people. Anyway, the super 1% hang out at a place called the Box and because Vivek is now THE MAN or The Plug, he gets an invite. Nomi and Zoey decide to roll with him to check it out..
I am purposely ignoring Ana this episode because she is for the War on Drugs and she lovingly referred to Dean Parker as the new Reagan. Needless to say I am fed up with her bullshit and she won’t be mentioned again.
While Zoey, Nomi and Vivek are checking out the scene at the Box, the twins have come down with something, THE FLU. Art really does imitate life lol because one of the twins was sick in real life when they were filming this plus like half of America has the flu right now. Worst flu season ever. Not only do they have the flu, but they got it from Aaron. Lol, you know this means they about to drag him for filth. But they can’t because they can barely move. It seems like the entire black student union is sick. Poor tings
Inside the box and Zoey and Nomi are feeling the glow of exclusivity. The party scene blows Zoey’s mind and Vivek is clearly walking around like big sh** on campus. He and Zoey are about to take a lap around the party when he’s approached by Balty and sort of summoned to the back. Zoey just kind of hangs out and enjoys the scene until too much time passes and she’s ready to go. When she goes to find Vivek she finds him way in the back with Balty and his crew who are doing lines of coke. O_o
Dis tew much. Apparently, its too much for Zoey too because the next day she confronts Vivek about selling coke. But rightfully, he calls her a hypocrite. Zoey has no problem with Vivek selling her the pills she’s taking like crazy but she draws the line with cocaine. Seriously. These are some PWI ass problems. Whew. Sorry I have to keep saying that but damn. Back to them, Zoey is desperate trying to convince Vivek he’s doing too much but its going in one ear and out the other. Besides, is she not readily enjoying the benefits of his side hustle. SMH
But being the on campus dough boy has all kinds of consequences and Vivek learns that when he gets jumped. Zoey is called to the hospital in the middle of the night because Vivek was in the middle of a deal when a few guys ran up and jumped him. Not only does Zoey come to the hospital but so does Vivek’s parents. Zoey lies to them and tells them that he was actually protecting her and thats how he got beat up. No one asked you for this gratuitous lie Sis. No one.
Zoey hopes that this experience has helped Vivek learn his lesson, but honestly it hasn’t. Its just made him a more methodical dealer. Now he has a crew. SMH. The only good thing from this entire ordeal is that Zoey decides to kick her adderall habit. We gone see if its as easy as her just saying she’s done.
This was a hard episode to watch this week. Zoey was popping those pills left and right and honestly I am worried. Lets keep an eye on it. See y’all next week!
