While Hope struggles with the Hollow’s dark magic, the Nazi-Vampires strike against the Crescent Wolves and the NOLA witches. Catch up on The Originals with our review of “The Kindness of Strangers” and “We Have Not Long to Love”.

In “God’s Gonna Trouble the Water” we watch Hope and the Mikaelsons struggle to say goodbye to Hayley. Hope and Klaus vow to each other to figure out how to take care of the Hollow’s magic and bring their family back together. Yet, by the end of the episode, Klaus and Elijah are knocked out and their spirits transported to and trapped in the Mikaelson compound.
While we are speculating hat this is the doing of a Mikaelson enemy (like a witch working with the Nazi-Vampires), in “The Kindness of Strangers”, we learn that it’s Hope (with help from Freya) who has trapped the Mikaelson siblings.

Yep, Rebekah, Kol, and Marcel find themselves trapped in the chambre de chasse. Hope has done this so she could expel the pieces from the Hollow from her father, aunt, and uncles, and unite it in herself. In order to escape, each of the Mikaelsons must find a key to unlock the compound’s main door. Hope has hidden those keys with representational magic in places that remind her of each Mikaelson.
Kol finds his key in a book of Shakespeare that he sent Hope for her birthday.
Rebekah finds her key in an old hiding place, under a floorboard where she used to hide letters from Marcel.
Klaus finds his key when burning a box of letters that Hayley had written him about Hope over the years of their family’s separation.
But Elijah is the conundrum. Marcel realizes that Elijah isn’t being forthcoming about still having amnesia. Elijah confesses to the group that, while he knows about the vow of Always & Forever, he believes is promises to Antoinette are much more important. Elijah doesn’t believe himself to be a member of the family. He recalls that, when Vincent performed the spell to bring back his memories, he saw a long hallway and a door he couldn’t bring himself to open. Klaus suggests that this is Elijah trying to avoid the pain of the memories of his love for Hayley. In the midst of this discussion, we see that Hope has been successful in extracting the Hollow. YIKES.
Marcel soon finds Elijah’s key in his coffin… it seems Hope associates Elijah with death since his (in)action led to Hayley’s death.
Together, the Mikaelsons unlock the door and find themselves in that white hallway. They each walk through their white door and awaken in NOLA. Elijah approaches his red door with a lot of trepidation, but Klaus stays behind to help him force Elijah’s door open. And with that, Elijah wakes up with all his memories. And it is even more devastating to watch him sob and wail over losing Hayley. *WEEPING* Back in his signature suit and daylight ring, Elijah returns to Antoinette to give her the cure to Klaus’s bite, but leaves her. Elijah goes to the bayou to say goodbye to Hayley.
As I watch “We Have Not Long to Love”, I don’t actually know what to expect from Elijah now. I don’t think forgiveness is a thing that can happen. And truth be told, I can’t be upset that Hope doesn’t have any words to her uncle. Part of me feels the same pain and resentment.

It’s important to acknowledge that Hope’s anger is partly fueled by the Hollow. Klaus is rightly concerned about his daughter, because it’s very clear that the magic is overwhelming Hope. Klaus takes out his frustrations on Freya (Hope’s accomplice). But, if there’s anyone who best understands what Hope is going through, it’s Freya. That’s one thing I will never take from her: Freya loves Hope. She loves her family and has sacrificed so much for them, over and over again.

Elsewhere, Irish Declan has returned to NOLA and is also in deep mourning for Hayley. You have to wonder whether he might already have an inkling about the supernatural goings-on in city. He is an O’Connell, after all.
Soon, Elijah and Irish Declan come face-to-face when he visits the bar. Elijah, wanting to catch up on the years of Hayley’s life that he missed, has Declan tell him all about her, the woman they are both grieving *CRIES*
When Declan realizes that Elijah is the ex who hurt Hayley, he becomes angry. However, they’re interrupted by Hope. She and her uncle have their confrontation and Hope is enraged.
Hope: “I hate you.”
Elijah: “I hate me, too.”
And I… I don’t know what to say.
Klaus arrives before Hope can kill Elijah, but Declan has seen it all.

Elijah compels Declan to forget everything and to be reassured at at peace about Hayley and her love for himt. Before that though, Elijah does confess to Declan about NOLA’s supernatural community. You have to wonder whether part of Declan will remember this, despite being compelled.
As for Hope, she acknowledges the bloodlust that the Hollow has created within her, but Klaus says he can help with that:
“A rage that can only be quieted by violence…” So, is Klaus going to take Hope out on a murder binge? Maybe to kill the Nazi Vampires…
The Nazi-Vampires are still up to no good. This time, under the guise of “Citizens for the Safety of New Orleans” Emmett threatens violence against Marcel, Josh, Vincent, and their communities if the Crescent Wolves aren’t forced out of the Quarter and back to the Bayou.
Unfortunately, the Nazi-Vampires fulfill their promise of mayhem. While preparing the floats for the Mardi Gras parade, Emmett compels a man to plant a bomb with Lisena. Unfortunately, Lisena dies. When Marcel and Vincent confront Emmett and the Nazi-Vampires, Vincent promises to stand with the wolves. In retaliation, Emmett has poisoned the witches (INCLUDING IVY) as they are praying for the dead.
I really don’t understand why we’re playing games with these Nazi-Vampires. Hope and Klaus need to KILL THEM ALL.
But the silver lining to all this carnage: Freya asks Keelin to marry her, and she accepts!!! And according to a sneak peek from Entertainment Weekly, a Freelin wedding is right around the corner! (The July 18 episode!)
